GetLit

a website redesign project

Using Poetry to Increase Literacy, Empower Youth, and Inspire Communities.

GetLit is a California-based arts education nonprofit that has transformed the landscape of teen literacy through its teen poetry troupe by empowering new generations in literature, self-expression, and performing arts. Due to a former member being named a National Youth Poet Laureate, the program started to receive increased attention. Wanting to capitalize on this attention, GetLit came to my agency looking to update, reorganize, and recenter its website and brand.

During this project, I was in charge of developing the information architecture of the site and creating a cohesive brand on which the site UI could be based. Since this was such a large and detailed project, I am going to focus on two sections of this website redesign, the About and Events sections.

Site and Content Map

After initial discussions with GetLit’s team about their wants and needs. My partner and I audited the website. We then started mapping out what content we wanted to include on each page. I then placed those pages into a sitemap format.

Wireframes

Next, I moved on to wireframes. Since we knew we wanted to leave a lot of room to experiment with the UI, we decided to make the wireframes based on features rather than layout.

Branding and UI

After we understood how our features fit onto the page, we finally got to get creative with our UI. We based our UI on our client’s annual report.

The Final Result

Finally, we combined UX and UI to create our high fidelity wireframes.
